Wing Chun light sparring out of Chi Sao

Chi Sao is the considered by many martial arts experts to be one of the most advanced training tools for the development tactile response of energy in self-defense and fighting. The practitioner develops a great sense of awareness and higher levels of sensitivity to force from an opponent in order to respond at the slightest change in pressure.

Chi Sao blends the pushing hands exercises of Tai Chi with the vertical self-defense planes of European bare knuckle boxing & fencing. Chi Sao sharpens your techniques.

To the Wing Chun student, learning Chi Sao should be considered a process of absorbing correct energy from the teacher. Chi Sao teaches good body structure, relaxation, forwardness, timing, distancing, pressure, advanced listening (senstivity) skills and many, many more aspects than I could list.

Chi Sao is an art in and of itself. It's a highly developed uninterrupted energy flow between two people specifically designed to awaken dormant human awareness. Any interference with the correct energies of Chi Sao is a violation of defense and should be instantly capitalized upon.

Beginners are first introduced to the simple, single sticky hand exercise (Don Chi Sao). After practice, the basic attack and defense motions can be flowingly executed without thought or interruption of breath. This is the ideal: to be able to handle the most chaotic aggression with simplicity and efficiency.

We feel that the above demonstration, although labeled "Superb," by the original YouTube poster, is a poor representation of our Wing Chun methods. Although this video may seem impressive to the novice, the practitioners do NOT adhere to many of the guiding principles that our group works meticulously to develop and maintain.
