Dana Point Self-Defense
The Dragon Institute specializes in Wing Chun Kung Fu, a close-quarters fighting system. The art uses the students natural body structure to develop power and speed. Students learn efficient tools to deal with the reality of violent physical assault. Wing Chun is a unique and scientific form of martial arts.
Wing Chun’s specialty is street-practical, close-quarters combat. Using quick punches and low kicks with a tight defense, students are in position for a quick advance. Additionally, coordinated agile stances and efficient footwork are keys for success. The effectiveness of Wing Chun is achieved by well coordinated attacks with simultaneous defense.
Wing Chun is considered by many self-defense experts to be the first choice for hand-to-hand combat. One of the first lessons that a student will learn is to deliver the correct amount of energy, while staying relaxed when possible. A good Wing Chun Sifu (instructor/teacher) will teach the student to overcome force with positioning and footwork rather than meeting it head on. Wing Chun classes also teach kicks and sweeps, palm strikes, elbows and knees. Combined with trapping and grappling control techniques, these complete the fighting arsenal.
